According to the New York State Department of Labor (DOL), employment prospects for respiratory therapists in the State are projected to be very favorable through the year 2020. The New York DOL also reports 200 average, annual openings for respiratory therapists.
The Department of Labor’s Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) survey found that respiratory therapists employed in the State of New York earn a mean, annual salary of $66,290, an increase from $65,260 in 2013. Other findings of the OES survey include:
- The median annual salary for respiratory therapists is $67,990, an increase from $66,920 in 2013.
- Entry-level respiratory therapists earn a mean, annual salary of $51,850, an increase from $50,840 in 2013.
- Experienced respiratory therapists earn a mean, annual salary of $73,510, an increase from $72,470 in 2013.
The Department of Labor reports that there are currently 5,980 respiratory therapists employed in the State of New York, a slight decrease from 6,180 in 2013. However, the Department of Labor also estimates that by 2015, there will be 6,290 respiratory therapists licensed in New York and 7,030 by 2022.
Between 2012 and 2022, New York is expected to add 880 respiratory therapist jobs, an increase of 14.3 percent.
The occupational group under which respiratory therapists are categorized, Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations, is expected to experience a net increase of 54,930 jobs and a growth of 15.3 percent between 2012 and 2022.
